What Is SEO?

A lot of people ask, what is SEO? SEO stands for Search Engine optimization, read more about our SEO services and have a look at some of our SEO articles covering this topic here. SEO is, in short, the practice of getting your website to rank on search engines, such as Google.

No Nonsense SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

We published our first website on March 2nd 2001. Later in that year we came across the term SEO or Search Engine Optimisation. This was the start of an exciting journey which continues at a pace right up to now. Since that start some 15+ years ago we’ve created around 250 websites of our own, the vast majority of which were designed to take advantage of SEO systems and techniques.

What is SEO?

SEO is a process geared towards driving free yet highly targeted traffic to a website using the power of keyword searches. Over the years SEO has spawned many self-styled experts and its fair share of dubious practitioners. Today SEO is no longer as easy as it used to be. The fundamentals remain important however and probably always will. The days when keyword stuffing, meta tags and hidden text SEO strategies have long gone.

Modern SEO is about thorough implementation of specific methodologies including website content creation and relevant link building.  For most commercial ventures it is not a matter of SEO or PPC or eMail marketing. All 3 of these online marketing components have to be welded together to form a complete strategy geared to maximising any business opportunity.

The common denominator in all 3 is the absolute need to identify and then satisfy customer needs at the individual level at an instant in time.

The Future of SEO…

The future of SEO is not about discovering, what are inevitablly short term, sophisticated techniques designed to engineer top ranking results. Modern SEO is about driving relevant traffic to a website… and then converting that traffic to sales..

This means that first and foremost any SEO strategy that stands a chance of working longer term must be created around the provision of good useful content relevant to the searcher’s queries and the organisations’ offerings. These are the fundamentals of modern SEO. The practice of classical SEO as a business strategy starts with the creation of large amounts of unique relevant content. SEO is very expensive in terms of time and by itself is no guarantee whatsoever of future success since control is not in the hands of the website owner.

We focus on these fundamentals and reject any attempt to usurp search engine results.
